Weekly Roundup: 4/29 - 5/4

ATHLETIC WEEKLY ROUNDUP
APRIL 29 - MAY 4
BOYS’ SWIM & DIVE
On 5/3, Mullen swimmers hit the pool at the Centennial League A Meet.  In the boys’ 200 meter Medley, the Mullen Mustangs finished in 4th place.  In the Boys 200 meter intermediate, Noah Mooney finished in 3rd place.  In the 100 meter fly, Henry Montgomery finished in 1st place.  In event No. 10 which was the 100 meter backstroke,  Noah Mooney finished in 1st place ahead of the pack. The boys will now travel to the VMAC in Thornton to participate in the 4A State Championships on Thursday and Friday. 

GIRLS’ SOCCER 
On 5/2, the Mustang Girls’ Soccer team hosted Lutheran High School in the final game of the regular season and came away with a 1-0 victory.  On Sunday, the Soccer Committee met and seeded the bracket for the 4A State Championships.  Mullen was selected as a 15-seed for the playoffs and hosts Palisade on Wednesday at 5:00 on the Mullen pitch. 

BOYS’ LACROSSE
On 4/30, The Mullen Mustangs took the field against Thunder Ridge High School and got a huge victory by the score of 12-5.  A day later the Mustangs traveled to Evergreen and lost 12-3.  Trying to get back in the win column, Mullen hosted Air Academy but fell short 13-0.  In their final regular season game on Saturday, Mullen played Green Mountain and lost 5-2.  

Despite the late season skid, the team qualified for the 4A State Playoffs as the 23rd seed and travels to Vail on Wednesday to take on 10th seeded Vail Mountain High School in the first-round of the tournament.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE
On 4/30, the Girls’ Lacrosse team hit the road against Evergreen High School.  The Mustangs would fall 16-4.  Later in the week on 5/1, Mullen took the field against Cherokee Trail High School and lost 23-9.  In their final game of the regular season, the team took on Arapahoe High School and lost 15-3. 
 
The team qualified for the 4A State playoffs as the 18th-seed and travels to Castle Rock’s Douglas County Stadium on Tuesday to take on the 12th-seeded Sabercats of Castle View in the first round. 

BASEBALL
On 4/30, the Mullen Baseball Team hit the diamond and took on Eaglecrest High School. The Mustangs would fall by a score of 3-2.   Next, on 5/3, the Mustangs took on the Cherokee Trail Cougars in the first-round of the Centennial League Challenge and lost 6-0.  The Boys of Summer now take on Smoky Hill on Tuesday in the second game of the Challenge.  The team currently has a #12 Seeding Index and hope to play their way into a regional hosting position. 

GIRLS TENNIS
The girls' tennis team dominated the 4A Region 3 Individual Tennis Tournament winning all seven championship titles (1-singles through 4-doubles).  With individual qualifications secured for the State tournament, they now set their sights on the team championship. They'll play the Red-Tailed Hawks of Cheyenne Mountain High School in the semifinals on Tuesday.  Then they head down to All City Park in Pueblo for the Individual State Championships on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

GIRLS’ GOLF
The Mullen golf teams traveled to Aurora Hills for their final league event of the season.  Jane Gray for Mullen would shoot a 79 which landed her in 3rd place at Aurora Hills.  She currently sits in 5th in the Centennial League.  Mullen had two others finish in the Top 10 at Aurora Hills. As a team, Mullen finished 2nd at Aurora Hills and 2nd in the league behind Cherry Creek.  The team now turns their attention to Regionals which is next week on May 14th. 

TRACK & FIELD
On 5/4, Mullen track and field athletes participated in the Cherry Creek Invitational.  The Girls team would finish in 5th out of 20 teams.  The Boys’ track team finished in 10th out of 20 teams.  Both teams participate in the Centennial League Championships this Thursday and Saturday.
